Snippet of my new story

My father promised he would always be there for me, no matter what happens, he would always be by my side.

Everything changed after the incident; the night where he died right in front of my eyes.

My mother had shot him, right through his heart.

Blood splattered everywhere in the room, my dad lying still on the ground, blood still pouring out where the bullet had penetrated through his body, my mother still had her hands on the gun, and quickly turned to me.

“You will be joining your father very soon” she smirked

She lifted the gun, pointed it towards my head, I couldn’t move … no … I wouldn’t move, I stood there frozen; I always thought my mum was kind and generous, she never seemed like that kind of person who would kill, who would hate; she wouldn’t do a thing like that, would she?

Tick ………. Tock……….Tick……….Tock ……….

The expression on my mother’s face was horrifying, one part of her seemed to enjoy what she had done and the other was full of hatred and jealousy. Why did she do that? Was she going crazy?

Bang.

Now I remember why, they were fighting over something, something my dad did a long time ago, he had an affair with another lady, when my mum found out she was furious, every night I would hear her sobbing in the bathroom. But why did she leave this until now?

WHY DID SHE DO THIS?

I felt this warm feeling, just like when dad, mum and I sat in front of the fire roasting marshmallows and telling stories to each other.

I opened my eyes slowly and got up.

There was blood everywhere.

Two bodies lie there, in front of me, I was horrified, and tears started rolling down my cheeks.

I blacked out.

I saw the strangest thing outside my window ...

I saw the strangest thing when I looked out my front window. I’ll try and explain it in the most simplistic terms: half human, half fox- the body of a fox, the pupils and aura of a human. It walked up my drive away. The wind blew and ruffled its coat. It looked so determined. One paw in front of another as it walked towards my house. I was so scared. What was it? What was it doing here? I closed the curtains but peeked out the sides. It growled. I yelped. I saw it run round the back of my house. Was the back door shut? Oh my god. Run, run, I told myself. It was already there. It was already there in my house. It pounced on me. What was happening? I’m so scared…

When I woke up I couldn’t comprehend anything. I was lying on the ground of my house in complete darkness. I was hurt. My arms were aching and there was a pain in my legs that stopped them from moving. I screamed, “Help me!” I heard a growl. “Go away! Go away!”
It whispered to me, no one’s gonna save you.
“Why me? Why me! What did I do?” You left me.
Oh my god. Please… don’t tell me it’s… “David?”
Yes.

“I didn’t mean to! You don’t know why it happened!” It hurt. You took away my heart. He bared his teeth and growled so loudly I thought I would die right then and there. His human eyes scared me. I felt tears well up in the corners of my eyes and start to pour out. This wasn’t fair. You lied to me, he laughed. How could a fox laugh? You told me you loved me. You said we’d be together forever. I swallowed deep. I couldn’t think properly. It wasn’t like that… why was he so angry at me? It’s time for revenge. When he said that, I screamed. I screamed and screamed and screamed.
“Why are you a fox?” He rolled his eyes and said: you’ll find out when you die.

His claws were already extended, ready to attack. I shielded my face with my arms and tried desperately to move my legs but they were broken. I stopped screaming and started sobbing instead. He came closer. His claws were there, right next to my neck, but they weren’t moving. Help me…

“David? David!?”
I don’t want to do this…
Something wasn’t right. I removed my arms from my face and touched David. He was shaking. Help… help me…
His eyes started flashing. He groaned and then whimpered… his paw came closer to my throat. I didn’t know what to do. How was I meant to save him? I wanted to so bad. I leaned over and kissed him. “I love you.”

Story

Chapter 1
It was 10:00am Monday morning. I got up and did my usual morning things: I read the paper while I ate breakfast, I went to tidy up my room and I watched TV. "The Morning News" was showing, as usual. Rover, my German Shepherd pet dog, sat down next to me as I watched. I watched the people talk animatedly about a new movie release. It's been awhile since I've seen anyone, I contemplated.

After awhile, the show moved on from the movie release to do a special story on family. In the show, everyone was smiling and happy. There were a few tears but soon they were all gone. I patted Rover and looked out the window. I noticed a weird tightening sensation in my chest.

All of a sudden, Rover started barking loudly. What is it? Who could it be? I thought to myself. There were no signs of life that I could tell. I put on my oxygen mask and grabbed a gun, telling Rover to stay inside. I walked outside and looked around. From the corner of my eye I saw a shadow.

I hid against a wall as I crept slowly towards the figure. No one is supposed to be here, I thought. I'm supposed to be all alone. I took a few deep breathes to calm myself down and glanced once again at the shadow; but it was gone. I panicked and ran out from my cover. I looked aimlessly not wanting to lose the person. And there, crouched down and holding their arm, blood trailing slowly down, was a young boy I had never seen before.

"What’s your name?" I asked.

"M – m – m – y – y name is Mark” he replied shyly.

" Where’s your family?" I asked again.

" They ... They ... were killed by ... by ... these robots" the boy replied " I was with my friends and when I went back home, I ... I saw these robots attacking my family, I didn’t know what to do so ... so I ran ... ran away”

The boy started bawling, as if bad memories were once again resurfacing.

I stilled, unsure of what to do. I could tell this was the truth. My army training had prepared me for liars and this little boy was not one.

"Would you like to come inside and having something to eat?" I couldn't just leave him here. I didn't know where he had come from and how he had gotten here, but leaving him was out of the question.

He hastily wiped his eyes, embarrassed to have been caught crying. "Y-y-yes please."

He quickly stood up and followed cautiously behind me. We both hung up our oxygen masks and I put away my gun. He stood behind me the whole time, unsure of what to do. I smiled at him, "This way," and pointed him to the kitchen.

Rover ran madly towards us. He was happy to see someone new in the house and he stopped right in front of the boy to lick his face. The boy was laughing and it brought tears in my eyes to see someone so happy. After, I grabbed a packet of 2 minute noodles, cooked it and gave it to the boy. Then I showed him his room, and grabbed him some new clothes. it was weird with someone else living in the house.

"Tomorrow's going to be a big day” I said to the boy, “We’re going to get some food”

"But how are we going to that with ... with ... all those ... robots everywhere?” asked the boy

"You will see tomorrow” I replied “But for now, get some sleep”

I closed the door behind him and leaned against it, listening. I suddenly heard snuffling sounds. I got scared that he was crying but then decided to leave him alone- at least for the first night.

I went into the kitchen and cleaned the two bowls. Rover walked beside me the whole time I did these chores. I was stern about him not sleeping in my bed, but sometime during the night I felt the familiar presence, and just like I usually did, I let him stay there.

Untitled

I heard a knock on the door downstairs. Ugh, who could it be? At this time? I thought, I slowly got up out of bed. I looked around the hallway but no one was there. The windows were shut and locked and I suddenly remembered that no one was home except for me.
My breathing became quicker, my heart was pounding and I didn’t know what to do. I walked downstairs into the kitchen to grab a knife; the knocking was getting louder and it sounded like the door was going to abruptly break open. I slowly walked towards the door, still clutching the knife. The knocking suddenly stopped.
“Hello?” I asked.
There was no reply, I took the courage and slowly opened the door. Outside the door a creature emerged. I dropped my knife in shock.
“Help me, please,” said the creature, suddenly collapsing onto the ground.
I helped the creature inside and took him to the lounge room. It was scratched all over and its arm had a deep cut. I looked inside my medical cupboard and found bandages, quickly bandaging its arm. But something wasn’t right, the creature had fur and it looked like an animal but it was walking on its hind legs like a human. I was beginning to freak out.
“Don’t be afraid of me, I won’t hurt you, I promise,” the creature said.
“O–o–o–k–k” I stuttered “Wh-a-a-t happened to-to… you?”
“I … I was being pursued by these men,” replied the creature. “I was being tested on and I escaped.”
“Is that how you became like this?” I asked
“Yeah…” said the creature; tears started forming on the corner of its eye. It was crying.
“Don’t worry, you can stay here for the night,” I replied, giving the creature a hug. The warmness and the softness of its fur was comforting and it felt like I knew this creature. But that was impossible.
