I heard a knock on the door downstairs. Ugh, who could it be? At this time? I thought, I slowly got up out of bed. I looked around the hallway but no one was there. The windows were shut and locked and I suddenly remembered that no one was home except for me.
My breathing became quicker, my heart was pounding and I didn’t know what to do. I walked downstairs into the kitchen to grab a knife; the knocking was getting louder and it sounded like the door was going to abruptly break open. I slowly walked towards the door, still clutching the knife. The knocking suddenly stopped.
“Hello?” I asked.
There was no reply, I took the courage and slowly opened the door. Outside the door a creature emerged. I dropped my knife in shock.
“Help me, please,” said the creature, suddenly collapsing onto the ground.
I helped the creature inside and took him to the lounge room. It was scratched all over and its arm had a deep cut. I looked inside my medical cupboard and found bandages, quickly bandaging its arm. But something wasn’t right, the creature had fur and it looked like an animal but it was walking on its hind legs like a human. I was beginning to freak out.
“Don’t be afraid of me, I won’t hurt you, I promise,” the creature said.
“O–o–o–k–k” I stuttered “Wh-a-a-t happened to-to… you?”
“I … I was being pursued by these men,” replied the creature. “I was being tested on and I escaped.”
“Is that how you became like this?” I asked
“Yeah…” said the creature; tears started forming on the corner of its eye. It was crying.
“Don’t worry, you can stay here for the night,” I replied, giving the creature a hug. The warmness and the softness of its fur was comforting and it felt like I knew this creature. But that was impossible.
